Job Summary: As a Business Development Director will play a critical role in expanding our customer base and fostering strong relationships with both shippers and carriers. You will be responsible for identifying new business opportunities, negotiating contracts, and ensuring the successful execution of freight shipments. Key Responsibilities:
- Prospect and Acquire New Clients: Identify and target potential shippers and carriers to expand our client portfolio. Generate leads through cold calling, networking, and referrals.
- Build and Maintain Relationships: Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing clients, understanding their specific transportation needs, and providing exceptional customer service.
- Negotiate Freight Rates: Negotiate competitive rates with carriers and shippers while ensuring profitability for the company. Provide accurate and transparent pricing to clients.
- Manage Freight Shipments: Coordinate the transportation of goods by matching available carriers with suitable shipments. Ensure on-time delivery and effective communication throughout the shipment process.
- Problem Solving: Address and resolve any issues or challenges that may arise during the transportation process, such as delays, damages, or discrepancies.
- Market Research: Stay informed about industry trends, market conditions, and competitor activities. Use this knowledge to adapt strategies and identify opportunities for growth.
- Documentation and Compliance: Ensure that all necessary documentation, including contracts, bills of lading, and insurance certificates, are accurately completed and in compliance with regulations.
- Reporting: Maintain accurate records of all transactions, client interactions, and sales activities. Provide regular reports to management on sales performance and market trends.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in business, logistics, or a related field (preferred).
- Proven experience in freight brokerage or sales, with a track record of meeting or exceeding sales targets.
- Strong negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of transportation regulations and industry trends.
- Proficiency in using transportation management software (TMS) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage time effectively.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
